August is an exciting time in Rhinebeck. We host the Dutchess County Fair which brings visitors from all over the country. Some locals get out of town, but our kids are still young enough to have a blast with the All Day Ride...
Sunshine & Cocktails: Our Danielle Walker favorites! Summer is here and people are gathering again! I love to sit around our firepit on the cool nights of the Hudson Valley. We have perfected our S’more technique and the kids love the treat! In the heat of the late afternoons, our family loves to make cocktails (and mocktails!) and nothing better than taking advantage of local ingredients. We make this Watermelon Margarita from Danielle Walker, I like to substitute the local honey we get from Hudson Valley Bee Supply for the maple syrup. For the perfect kid-friendly mocktail, leave out the tequila!
Another favorite is a Peach Sangria adapted from Danielle Walker’s Celebrations. I love the peaches, plums and herbs from Montgomery Place Orchards and Hearty Roots
- 1 bottle dry white wine
- ½ cup peach puree (about 2 peaches pitted and peeled)
- 1 ½ cups Ginger Ale
- 2 peaches pitted and sliced
- 2 plums pitted and sliced
- Herbs for garnish (mint, basil, thyme)
Combine all ingredients in a pitcher, cover and refrigerate overnight for best flavor. Garnish with mint, basil or thyme!
